|
Players originating from 7 different countries took part in this exciting event which commenced in the beach resort of Hua Hin situated on the Gulf of Thailand.
IMPERIAL LAKE VIEW (Round 1)
The first round was played at Imperial Lake View, Hua Hin’s first ever 36 hole golf resort. Yorkshire man Richard Burke tamed the front nine holes, with 23 points. However the back nine brought him down to earth, but he still recorded a fine 36 point total to take the first days honours. Ian Harper was hot on Richard’s heels with a score of 35 points with Adrian Robinson finishing third on 34 points.
MAJESTIC CREEK (Round 2)
The short journey to Majestic Creek took us through Thailand’s rural countryside passing farms which produce Sugar cane, bananas & mangos, finally arriving at the courses mountain location. Today proved to be ladies day with 16 handicapper Jean Pink scoring an excellent 38 point total. Jean was followed by Jackie Knapp 37 points, Adrian Robinson 36 points and Malcolm Reid 34 points.
PALM HILLS (Round 3)
The slick greens of Palm Hills proved a stern test for all the players on this Max Wexler designed course. Only the best putters scored well, with Lancashire’s Marion Martin coming out on top carding a one over par total of 35 points leaving the rest of the field trailing behind. Only three other players managed to score 30 points or more, Jackie Knapp 32 points, Richard Burke 31 points & Spain’s Angeles Bertram 30 points.
ROYAL RACHUBURI (Round 4)
The tour then left the Gulf of Thailand and moved on inland to the Jungle area of the excellent Royal Rachaburi Golf Club, which was in pristine condition. Low handicappers Malcolm Reid (+1) Adrian Robinson (5) & Laura Harper (15) all scored 34 points. However Laura became the champion of the day on count back to take the ladies on to three consecutive wins.
MAE JO (Round 5)
We then moved up to the beautiful Mountainous region of Chiang Mai and the Mae Jo Golf Club. Three Scots lead the way on a very testing golf course. Abbie Milne playing off a 5 handicap put in a great performance carding a 1 under par 37 point total. Abbie was followed by the ever consistent Malcolm Reid on 36 points & former champion Neil Rumbles with 33 points. Other respectable scores came from Adrian Robinson 32 points, Alasdair Young & Richard Burke both on 30 points.
CHIANGMAI HIGHLANDS (Final Round)
This Schmidt-Curley American designed course set in the Chiangmai Hills proved to be the perfect setting for the final round of our competition. The battle for overall champion was still very much in the melting pot with 4 players still in with an outside chance of winning. However Adrian Robinson & Malcolm Reid looking very much the favourites with only 2 points separating the pair. Adrian had to beat his worst card of 32 points to improve on his final total and Malcolm having to beat his worst card of 30 points .It all went down to the last hole with Adrian only matching his score and Malcolm beating his by one point. However this was not enough with South of England based Adrian taking the title from Scottish born Malcolm by just 1 point. The best score of the day came from 14 handicap David Newman with a fine 35 point total. Other creditable performances were returned by Neil Rumbles & Angeles Bertram both with 34 points, Richard Burke 32 points & Grace Reid on 30 points.
The Top final places were as follows:

Congratulations to Adrian and Malcolm on a making it a great contest, taking the championship down to the last putt.
It was great to see so many people returning to play in our competitions which included in the field, past winner Carol Newman, who regretfully missed two rounds due to illness.
